Let's chat about Book 1 - All She Wants
For those who have read book 1 - All She Wants, I wanted to first apologize for any errors that may have slipped through several cracks :(
But I can say that there will be at least 3 AVID book readers to review book 2 - The World Ahead so this won't happen again; or will be certainly as less as possible! So be on the lookout for an invite for being a proof reader for book 2! :)
Now, for the juicy part, If you're read this book then you know that Carey is soon to be expecting. That's right, she's pregnant! But not only is she pregnant, she doesn't know who the father is. :(
My poll question for today is: Whose baby do you think it is? Brian or Sean?
The door slowly opened and in came Dr Karimi.
"Well hello Miss Cutter. I am Dr Karimi, how are you feeling?"
"Hello Dr Karimi...I feel ok. I have a slight headache and I'm really sleepy, but that's about it."
"Yes, those are some of the common, but mild, side effects of the Heparin we gave you. Should go away in a couple of hours, but in the meantime, I'll have one of the nurses get you some aspirin. That should help with your headache and continue to aide with the thinning the blood. Unfortunately there's not too much more we can give you without risking certain factors that could potentially harm the baby."
"The baby...what baby" she quickly snapped
"Your baby Miss Cutter. Several tests indicate that you're approximately 6 weeks pregnant."
"WHAT? Get outta here!"
"You want me to leave?"
"No no...I'm sorry, it's just a saying." she said as she managed to squeeze out a smile through the dazed look on her face. "You have GOT to be kidding me"
"I'm afraid not Miss Cutter" he said as he returned the smile. "I take it with that kind of response... that it's safe to say...You didn't know Alex for $100"
She couldn't help but to giggle a little on that one. "I would say pay the man Alex because you're absolutely right!"
"Well I must say, I've had to deliver a lot of different kinds of prognoses before, but never of this nature. Is it safe to congratulate you?" he said in a nervous, but concerned voice.
"Yes, yes it is. I'm just a little rattled right now, but I'm good. You're good. Besides, it's not YOUR fault."
"No Miss Cutter, it's definitely not my fault"
They both laughed.
"So outside of this wonderful news, how do you feel?"
"I'm pretty good I guess. I only have this headache"
"So no dizziness, or spots before your eyes?" he questioned as he shined bright pen light into each eye...checking for pupil dilation.
"No
"Well I will be back to check on you here in a bit. In the meantime...I'll have the nurse get those aspirins for you."
"Thanks doc"
"Not a problem. Also, I passed the trays on the way down the hall so they should be in soon. Try to eat as much of it as you can to help subside all of the medicine we've given you. The saline drops we're administering now should help flush out any excessive unwanted medicines you may have, but food will help to absorb it as well."
"Ok, I will."
Carey sat in awwwwe after Dr Karimi left.
"Knock Knock Knock"
Before Carey could say come in, the door opened.
"Good morning. My name is Denise. I brought you some breakfast', she said as she sat the tray on an open spot of the bedside retractable tray and pushed it towards Carey. She raised the lid, "Looks like we have some oat meal, turkey bacon, eggs, and here's your toast and some jelly. Looks like you also have some cantaloupe."
"Thank you." Carey said as she raised her bed to an upright position so that she could try to nibble on the delicious looking food. Of course Carey knew that looks could always be deceiving.
"You're welcome. Let me know if you need anything. I'll be back to pick up your tray a little later.
"Ok I will...Thanks"
Carey pulled the tray table closer, raised the lid and looked at the food. Baked fish, steamed broccoli, with no cheese, and some steamed rice. 'Ugh" she said as she instantly felt nausea setting in.
"Knock Knock" said LaTifa as she pushed the door open.
"C'mon in"
LaTifa walked in holding balloons and flowers and candy a bear and a card.
"Heeeey how are you? How do you feel?" she said as she placed all of the get well gifts on wide ledge of the window pane. She walked over and gave Carey a kiss on the top of her head. For minutes she just starred at Carey without blinking until tears filled up in her eyes. She grabbed her by the hand and held it tight and said, "You can't leave me too!" as the tears overflowed her tear ducts and flowed from her eyes like rain drops from the sky. LaTifa had rushed through traffic to get there. She refused to not be there for another friend. Being here for Carey would help her pacify her guilt of not being there to say her good byes to Sheila. That hurt her so bad, but this...this could help her to recover.
"Stop all that crying...you making me cry. I'm ok! I feel ok! I'm one be ok! I promise" she said as she squeezed LaTifa's hand with assurement.
Tifa snatched a few tissues from the box and used one to dry Carey's eyes and the other to dry hers.
"Guess what?" Carey said to cut back on the sadness
"What?"
"One, I have the same doctor as Sheila had. And two, I'm pregnant!"
"Pregnant? What tha? Girl aint you too damn old to be having kids?" she joked in a serious way.
"Damn near"
"And how'd this happen?" she said as she sat in the empty chair next to Carey's bed.
"Must I really tell you that?"
"I'm just saying...I need the basic 5 questions answered. The who's, the what's, the when's, the where's, and the why's. That'll cover ever corner" she said as she laughed. "And how far along." she added
Carey took a deep breath and tried to fill LaTifa in as much as possible.
